Join us this week as we bring the spotlight to Chris Carty, our newest Solutions & Delivery Specialist at Adfin . We had a fun Q&A session to get to know him better. Here are some highlights from our chat:
What inspired you to pursue a career in Solution Engineering?
After studying Computer Science, I realised that while I had strong technical skills, I didn’t feel drawn to software engineering itself. During my job search, I came across Solution Engineering, a hybrid role where I could work directly with customers and translate their needs into technical requirements for product teams. This blend of customer interaction and technical insight really appealed to me.
Why did you decide to join Adfin?
I’ve always wanted to work at a startup, where versatility is key. I consider myself a "jack of all trades," which feels perfect for the startup environment. I was also excited at the chance to work again with my ex-Tink colleagues Tom, Sam, and Carlos, whose talents I respect deeply. After meeting Ciprian and the rest of the Adfin team, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Building a top-tier payment solution in an area of the market that has long been overlooked is both exciting and rewarding.
What’s the most interesting or challenging project you’ve worked on so far?
For my master’s thesis, I developed an e-commerce payment platform that incentivised users to pay via Open Banking. Customers could enter the username of the person who referred them, allowing the recommender to earn commission on each sale.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I play five-a-side football twice a week, and with my longer breaks, I like to go mountaineering. My highest peak to date is Mt Tarija in the Bolivian Andes, which stands at 5,320m. I’m aiming to achieve a 6,000m+ climb within the next 12 months.
What’s your favourite book, movie, or TV show?
Back to the Future Part II – I’ve watched it hundreds of times since I was young. The futuristic elements like flying cars, holograms, and hoverboards captivated me and probably fuelled my desire to join a startup and help create something groundbreaking.
