Payment collection and credit control tools that integrate with Xero or QuickBooks for UK businesses include Adfin, GoCardless, Stripe and QuickBooks Payments for taking payment, and Chaser, Paidnice and Satago for chasing. Adfin does both jobs in one place: it's a certified Xero app and a certified QuickBooks app with two-way sync, takes card, bank and direct debit payments, chases unpaid invoices and marks them paid automatically. Whichever tool you look at, check that "integrates" means two-way sync, invoices marked paid and fees and payouts reconciled, not just an invoice import.

The short version
- A useful Xero or QuickBooks integration syncs both ways, marks invoices paid automatically and leaves no fees to split out of payouts.
- Adfin is a certified Xero app and a certified QuickBooks app with two-way sync, and a payment method in Xero.
- GoCardless doesn't chase unpaid invoices and Stripe sends email reminders only, and both take their fees out of each payout.
- Chaser, Paidnice and Satago chase invoices from Xero or QuickBooks, with payments running through Stripe or a higher plan.
- Adfin takes card, bank and direct debit payments, chases with AI agents and can also be used for credit control alone.
What integrating with Xero and QuickBooks should mean
Almost every payment provider and credit control tool says it works with Xero and QuickBooks. In practice that can mean anything from a one-way invoice import to a full two-way connection, and the difference shows up at month end.
A useful integration does four things:
- Invoices and customers come across from your accounting software, and payments, part payments and credit notes go back without anyone retyping them.
- When a customer pays, the invoice closes in Xero or QuickBooks automatically, and any chasing for it stops.
- The payout that lands in your bank matches what's in your ledger, so you're not splitting a lump sum and posting fees by hand.
- Reminders are based on live invoice status, so a customer who paid this morning doesn't get a reminder this afternoon.
Payment tools usually handle the first three and leave chasing to someone else. Credit control tools usually handle chasing and the sync of invoice status, and rely on a separate payment provider to take the money.
Which tools integrate with Xero and QuickBooks
| Tool | What it does | Works with | What's left for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adfin | Payments (card, pay by bank, bank transfer, direct debit) and credit control | Xero and QuickBooks, two-way | One daily payout to reconcile, paid in full |
| GoCardless | Direct debit and one-off pay by bank | Xero and QuickBooks | Card payments elsewhere, chasing elsewhere, fees taken from each payout |
| Stripe | Cards, direct debit and invoicing with email reminders | Xero through a bank feed; QuickBooks through third-party apps | Fees, refunds and disputes taken from each payout; chasing beyond email |
| QuickBooks Payments | Cards and pay by bank inside QuickBooks | QuickBooks only | Direct debit through a separate provider; chasing |
| Chaser | Credit control, with a payment portal | Xero, QuickBooks and others | A Stripe account for card and direct debit payments |
| Paidnice | Credit control, with a payment portal | Xero and QuickBooks | A Stripe account for payments |
| Satago | Credit control, with card payments on higher plans | Xero and Sage | Direct debit and bank payments elsewhere |
How the payment and credit control tools differ
Adfin is a certified Xero app with two-way sync and is added as a payment method in Xero, so customers can pay a Xero invoice through it. In QuickBooks it's a certified QuickBooks app with two-way sync, connected from inside Adfin. Invoices, customers and payments move both ways, and an invoice paid through Adfin is marked paid automatically, including part payments and payments that arrive without a reference. Customers pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, pay by bank, bank transfer or direct debit, and Adfin chases what's unpaid over email, SMS and WhatsApp, stopping the moment a customer pays, with collection agents that can tailor reminders to each customer. You're paid every weekday in full, with Adfin's fee invoiced separately, so there's no fee to split out of each payout. You can also use Adfin for credit control on its own and add payments later.
GoCardless connects to Xero and QuickBooks Online. In Xero, its integration posts each payment into a clearing account, then posts its fees and the net payout on payout day, and you mark that transfer as reconciled. It doesn't take card payments and doesn't chase unpaid invoices, its fees come out before you're paid, and it charges its transaction fee on every payment you submit, including ones that fail.
Stripe pays out lump sums with its fees, refunds and disputes already taken off. Xero matches payments coming through a Stripe bank feed, but those deductions still have to be accounted for, and for QuickBooks Online Stripe points you to third-party apps. Stripe Invoicing sends email reminders only.
QuickBooks Payments takes cards and pay by bank inside QuickBooks, and payments are matched to your invoices there. Direct debit runs through a separate provider, and QuickBooks in the UK can't add statutory late payment interest to overdue invoices for you.
Chaser is credit control software that chases by email, SMS and automated calls and connects to Xero and QuickBooks Online. Customers can pay through its portal, and those invoices are marked paid in Xero or QuickBooks. Card payments and Bacs direct debit both run through your own connected Stripe account, so Stripe's fees apply, plus an extra Chaser fee on each direct debit. Chaser is priced by annual revenue.
Paidnice chases by email, with SMS as a paid add-on, applies late fees and interest automatically and connects to Xero and QuickBooks Online. Payments through its portal run through Stripe, and direct debit isn't among its listed features.
Satago combines chasing with credit reports and links to Xero and Sage. Card payments come with its Premium plan, and direct debit isn't among its listed features.
Questions to ask before you choose
Five questions get past the word "integrates", and any provider should answer each in a sentence:
- Does the sync run both ways, including part payments and credit notes?
- Is the invoice marked paid automatically, and does chasing stop at the same moment?
- Does the money arrive in full with the fee billed separately, or net of fees you then post?
- Which payment methods does it take itself, and which need a second provider or your own Stripe account?
- Which step does its own help centre say you'll still do by hand?
If the answers point to two or three tools stitched together, it's worth comparing that with one platform that collects, chases and syncs to the same Xero or QuickBooks records. Adfin is built for that, for UK businesses collecting in pounds.
