The payment tools that connect to QuickBooks Online in Ireland come in three kinds: direct debit providers such as GoCardless, credit control apps such as Paidnice, and combined tools that take payments and chase overdue invoices together. QuickBooks can already send up to three automatic reminders per invoice, so start from the job you want a tool to add. Then check whether payments it takes are marked paid in QuickBooks without you matching them by hand.

The short version
- QuickBooks Online in Ireland sends up to three automatic reminders per invoice.
- Those reminders only cover invoices emailed from QuickBooks itself.
- GoCardless collects SEPA direct debit but doesn't take cards or send reminders.
- Paidnice adds late fees and interest automatically from €59 a month.
- Adfin is a certified QuickBooks app that takes payments and chases invoices.
Start with what QuickBooks already does
Before you compare apps, look at what your QuickBooks account can do without one. QuickBooks Online in Ireland lets you switch on automatic reminders for unpaid invoices, up to three of them, set at points as far as 90 days either side of the due date, with wording you can change. They go out on invoices you emailed from QuickBooks itself, so an invoice you posted, or handed over at the end of a job, gets no automatic follow-up.
For a business with a handful of customers who mostly pay after one nudge, that may be all you need. A tool earns its place when you want something those reminders don't give you on their own, such as customers paying regular amounts by SEPA direct debit, customers paying a one-off invoice by card or bank transfer from a link, or chasing that goes further than three messages.
Write those needs down before you look at prices, because a tool that does one job well can still leave you running a second one for the rest.
The tools that connect, by type
| Tool | Kind of tool | What it adds to QuickBooks | How it charges |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoCardless | Direct debit provider | SEPA direct debit; lists QuickBooks among its 350+ integrations | Per-transaction fees, taken out of your payouts; own name on statements €50 a month |
| Paidnice | Credit control app | Late fees and interest applied automatically; works with QuickBooks Online, Xero and Stripe | €59 a month for up to 150 invoices; Pro from €85 |
| Adfin | Payments and credit control | SEPA direct debit, card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer; reminders by email, SMS and WhatsApp; certified QuickBooks app with two-way sync | 20c + 1% per successful payment, 1% part capped at €2 on direct debit and bank transfer (cards not capped); Essential credit control free; Enhanced 0.3% per paid invoice |
GoCardless collects SEPA direct debits and names QuickBooks among the software it connects to. It doesn't take card payments, so you'd need a second provider for customers who want to pay a one-off invoice by card, and it doesn't send invoice reminders, so chasing stays with QuickBooks or another app. Its fees are taken out of what it pays you, which leaves each deposit in your bank smaller than the invoices it covers and the difference to be recorded.
Paidnice is a chasing tool that works with QuickBooks Online, Xero and Stripe, and it applies late fees and interest automatically. Its price is set by how many invoices you send, starting at €59 a month for Essentials, which covers up to 150, with Pro from €85.
Adfin connects as a certified QuickBooks app, with sync running both ways. It takes SEPA direct debit, card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer, sends payment links by email, SMS or WhatsApp, and marks payments taken through it as paid in QuickBooks automatically. Its Essential credit control is free under fair use, with unlimited reminders on those three channels, statements and an aged debtors view. Enhanced, at 0.3% per paid invoice and only when it's used, adds Adfin's collection agents and statutory interest on overdue business invoices.
Trade-offs between one tool and two
Pairing a direct debit provider with a separate chasing app gives you a specialist for each job, and you can swap one without touching the other. You pay for that with a second login and a second price model, and both systems need to know whether an invoice is paid. If a payment shows in one before the other has caught up, a customer can get a reminder for an invoice they've already settled.
A single tool that collects and chases holds the payment and the reminders together, so there's one record to check when a customer tells you they've paid. In exchange, you're relying on one provider for both jobs.
The price models pull in different directions as well. A monthly fee is the same in a quiet month as a busy one, and on Paidnice the tiers rise with the number of invoices you send. A percentage of each paid invoice, as on Enhanced credit control, follows the invoices you actually chase, while per-payment fees on direct debit follow how many collections you make. Which suits you depends on how many invoices you send and how many of them go overdue.
Ask, too, which way information flows, and whether a credit note or an edited invoice in QuickBooks reaches the tool, so you aren't chasing a customer for an amount you've since reduced. If an app only reads from QuickBooks, or only writes payments back, find out how it handles changes you make after the invoice has gone out.
Which setup fits your business
If most of your customers are businesses paying regular monthly amounts, start with SEPA direct debit and then decide whether QuickBooks reminders cover the few invoices that still go overdue. If they don't, add chasing, either in the same tool or as a separate app.
If your customers mostly pay one-off invoices, a payment link that offers card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfer will probably matter more to you than mandates, along with reminders on channels people read quickly, such as SMS or WhatsApp.
If you'd like late payment interest added without working it out yourself, Paidnice applies late fees and interest automatically, and Enhanced credit control adds statutory interest to overdue business invoices. Under S.I. 580 of 2012, statutory interest only applies to invoices to businesses and public bodies, so make sure individual customers are left out.
If your invoices start life in other software and post into QuickBooks, ask any tool you're considering to confirm it picks those invoices up from QuickBooks as well.
