Join us this week as we bring the spotlight to Ema Damian, our newest Software Engineer at Adfin . We had a fun Q&A session to get to know her better. Here are some highlights from our chat:
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in software engineering?
E: As a young kid I always was saying I’m going to be a doctor when I grow up (like most girls do lol), but everything that I did along the way, every conscious or not really choice that I made, led towards opposite direction. I always had this analytical way of thinking and always liked to solve complex problems. Programming gave me just that and I guess it is what made it a good fit for me.
2. Why did you decide to join Adfin?
E: Joining Adfin came like a fresh breath of air for me and seemed the right next step for my career. The vision of our founders and the high goals, convinced me that here I’ll have the chance to work on things that I never tried before. And as I said, I do love a challenge.
3. What’s the most interesting or challenging project you’ve worked on so far?
E: I think that the most challenging project was working on the core banking engine at Mambu. My focus was mainly on the lending side of the engine. This part of banking comes with really complex cases, and when it is about money, then every decimal counts.
4. When you’re not coding, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
E: I mostly spend my free time with my family. Having two young kids is another challenge of my day to day life, which takes up mostly of my time. I do enjoy working out also and going to movies every time I get the chance.
5. What’s your favorite book, movie, or TV show?
E: It might sound like a cliche, but I think Friends is the TV show I enjoyed watching the most. Funny fact is that I watched it first time about 2 years ago, never knew what I was missing. As for books, I’m not that much of a reader, but I do enjoy ready philosophy books. The one that I read recently and it made me think, was “The conquest of happiness ” by Bertrand Russell.
