Adfin | Meet Lena Gryn, our new Head of Product Design

This week’s spotlight is on our wonderful new Head of Product Design, Lena, who joined Adfin after a (slightly chaotic) few months without one…during which Tom, our CEO, nobly took on the design reins himself (Figma is still recovering 😉). Since joining, she’s brought fresh thinking, clarity, and calm to our product design, and we’re very glad to have her on board. Let’s get to know her a bit better!

What inspired you to pursue a career as a Product Designer?

I always found problem-solving and communication via design to be a complex and fascinating subject. Following two years of work experience at a design agency in Kyiv, Ukraine, I won the Chevening Scholarship Award and got a chance to complement my practical experience with academic knowledge and complete a Masters Degree in Digital Service Design in the UK. Today, I believe I have the necessary tools to channel my passion for design to create sound, visually appealing products, where functionality and aesthetics exist in harmony.

Why did you decide to join Adfin?

Firstly, I saw the chance to contribute to building an innovative product and deliver designs that have a direct impact on both users and the business. Secondly, joining a company in its early stages was a great opportunity — to be part of a dynamic start-up environment and to work with an experienced, hands-on team.

What’s the most interesting or challenging project you’ve worked on so far?

I was tasked with solving an interesting and complex problem during my project for the DIFC Courts whilst enrolled with the Dubai Future Foundation initiative. I led the creation of an AI-driven data submission process for the DIFC Courts and designed intelligent intake forms, allowing users to file claims in a structured format, minimising human involvement and room for error.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love ballet, reading and exploring new places. I also have a collection of postal stamps and coins.

‍What’s your favourite book, movie, or TV show?

I enjoy watching documentaries and reading about history. The latest book I read was Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari.
