Introducing the Adfin Cash MOT: a cash flow check accountants can run on any client in seconds

Today we're launching the Adfin Cash MOT: a tool that shows accountants how a client's cash flow is actually doing and how it compares to businesses like theirs. It supports the conversations accountants are already having, and makes it easy to help with what they find.

Cash flow keeps small businesses running, and accountants are the ones who catch it when it’s under strain. Cash MOT makes it easier for accountants to catch cash flow issues by surfacing the leading indicators from their clients’ ledgers.

Then, it spins the data up into a client-friendly report that is easy to share.

How Cash MOT works

Cash MOT generates a cashflow report for a client's business. It works when an accountant using Adfin connects their client's accounting software to the tool.

Once connected, it analyses their transactions over the last 12 months, reporting on the business' average days to get paid, percentage of invoices paid late, average debtor days, and money written off or stuck 120+ days.

It also gives some estimated benefits a client could get by implementing credit control or late fees.

The report takes seconds to run and is benchmarked against a business' industry and company size, so it stays relevant to the business it's being run on.

We've kept Adfin's connection to the business' accounting software as light-touch as possible: it's read-only and disconnects once the report has run. Once the report is run, only the data used to produce the report is stored, and it's only kept for 60 days.

Finding the right clients to run it on

A Cash MOT can be run on any of the "Customers" in an accountant's Adfin account.

The tool recommends the Customers who could benefit most from a Cash MOT, based on publicly available data and their interactions with their accountant via Adfin. In Adfin, this is shown as an ordered list, with the Customers at the top being the most relevant.

Accountants can also search for specific clients, hide anyone they don't think is relevant, and save anyone who's a good fit for later.

Using the results

Where a report shows a client is struggling to get paid, credit control is one way to help, and Adfin's customer agents make it straightforward to put credit control in place.

Accountants can set up customer agents for a client directly from that client's Cash MOT report. From there, they can choose to manage the client's credit control themselves, or can hand it over to Adfin (we'll handle the rest).

The Cash MOT report can also be shared with a client, so they can set up an account, if they'd prefer to take it from there themselves. If they’d rather run the whole MOT themselves, we've also made the Cash MOT available on the Adfin website.

Getting started

Accountants using Adfin can run their first Cash MOT from the console today.

Navigate to the “Client dashboard” to get started, or get in contact with our team - they’re happy to walk through a report with anyone who’s interested.
