Twelve apps on Xero's UK store are worth your time if the job is getting paid, and they split into two groups that solve different problems. Some collect the money from your customer's bank or card. The rest chase, escalate or match, and still need your customer to act. Xero's Payments category holds around 48 apps, so most of what you'll scroll past is about paying out.
In this article
The short version
- Fewer than ten of the roughly 48 apps in Xero's UK Payments category collect from a customer by UK direct debit, on our reading of every listing on 19 August 2026.
- A chasing app improves the odds your customer acts. A collecting app removes the need for one.
- Xero's own store gave Stripe 2.52 out of 5 from 371 reviews on one page and 2.53 from 369 on another, on the same day, so every score here carries its count, its date and the page it came from.
- Four of these listings publish a price, most publish no fee at all, and no listing anywhere on the store carries an effective date.
- Review bases run from 374 down to zero, and the star rating tells you nothing without the count beside it.
- No app can read or change the reminders Xero is already sending, because Xero's API exposes them as one read-only boolean.

Every score read from apps.xero.com on 19 August 2026, with the review count beside it. Alphabetical, because Xero publishes no ranking and neither do we. Whether an app collects is our reading of its listing text.
Collecting money against chasing it
Xero's Payments category opens with "Make it easier for customers to pay you with the right payment app", and it makes no distinction between the two very different jobs those apps do.
A chasing app writes to your customer, and it can be very good at it, with sequences, statements, interest, SMS, even phone calls. At the end of all that, somebody at the other end still has to log in and pay. A collecting app holds a mandate or a card and takes the money on the due date, so your chasing is left for the exceptions.
Xero itself doesn't collect. Its UK page lists your customer's options as "debit card, credit card, direct debit (via Go Cardless or Stripe), Google Pay or Apple Pay", and its GoCardless page splits the labour: GoCardless "collect[s] payments directly from your customer's bank account", while Xero records the fee and reconciles. Payment and credit control apps for Xero has the full landscape and does Xero collect direct debit? has the question on its own.
One thing to hold in mind while you read the roster: Xero's API exposes invoice reminders as a single read-only boolean, so no app here can see your Xero reminder schedule or switch it off (Xero OpenAPI specification 17.0.0). Decide which system owns chasing and turn the other off yourself.
1. Access Pay Suite (by EazyCollect)
Direct debit collection for your UK invoices, from the Access group, published under EazyCollect's name.
The listing offers to "Collect your invoice payments by Direct Debit and reconcile them automatically in Xero using Access PaySuite's simple invoice collection solution". Countries: United Kingdom only, the narrowest geography here, so the direct debit on offer to you is Bacs and not ACH or SEPA.
Score: no rating shown and zero reviews on its Xero listing, where the access-paysuite slug returns a 404.
Not published on the listing: any fee, any onboarding time, or whether you need your own Bacs service user number. Suits you if you want a UK direct debit route from an established group and you'll take pricing on a call.
2. Adfin
Collection and chasing on one contract.
Adfin is available as a payment method inside Xero, the same slot Stripe and GoCardless occupy. The listing says "Cards, bank transfers and direct debit all in one place, with an AI credit controller to automate receivables", prices it at "20p + 1.0% per successful collection, capped at £4 for direct debits and bank payments. No monthly fees or minimums", and describes a two-way sync.
Score: 5 out of 5 from 6 reviews on its Xero listing. Six reviews doesn't compare with Chaser's 374.
Not published: any VAT position on the fee.
3. Apxium
A receivables and payments platform aimed at accounting firms as much as at the clients you bill.
Its listing calls it "A total receivables and customer payments solution for business", with card, bank EFT and direct debit among the methods. Countries listed are Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, so check with Apxium which scheme covers your UK collections, because the listing names none.
Score: 5 out of 5 from 12 reviews on its Xero listing.
Not published on the listing: pricing of any kind, or the direct debit scheme. Suits you if you run a practice and want client billing plus collection and reminders in one place.
4. Chaser
The deepest chasing product on the store, and the one Xero itself has awarded most.
Xero's own accounts receivable collection page calls Chaser "Xero App Partner of Year 2023". It runs email sequences, SMS, automated phone calls and outsourced credit control, and its payment feature is sold separately, so your chasing and your collection are two purchases.
Score: 4.98 out of 5 from 374 reviews on Xero's Debtor tracking page, and the largest review base in this roster apart from ApprovalMax, and ApprovalMax isn't a chasing tool.
Not published on the Xero listing: any price. Chaser's own pricing page publishes in US dollars on the page a UK visitor lands on, and we haven't converted it for you. Suits you if your ledger justifies staffed escalation and you want calls in the sequence.
5. CreditorWatch Collect
Collections software with an outsourcing arm, from the Australian credit bureau, and the UK is in its country list.
The listing describes email and SMS reminders, call management, escalation to collection agencies, and pay-now buttons in emails with links in SMS. Your customer can pay at the end of a chase, and no reusable mandate is described, so it lands in the chasing group for a recurring book.
Score: 4.89 out of 5 from 91 reviews on its Xero listing.
Not published on the listing: pricing, the collection commission, or whether its credit data covers UK companies as well as Australian ones. Suits you if you want chasing and an escalation route from one supplier.
6. ezyCollect
Receivables automation with a checkout attached to it, published by Sidetrade.
Its listing describes reminders by email, by SMS and by phone alongside a payment layer covering card checkout, direct debit and pay-later instalments, with direct debit listed across the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Singapore. Sidetrade also runs its own enterprise receivables platform, so you're buying something built for a finance team with a real ledger.
Score: 4.94 out of 5 from 35 reviews on its Xero listing.
Not published on the listing: pricing, the UK scheme, or which methods are available in which country. Suits you if you want chasing and collection from one vendor and you've the volume to warrant a demo.
7. FastPay
A small UK specialist doing one thing: direct debit collection against your Xero invoices.
Verbatim: "The FastPay integration tool makes it easy for Xero users to collect their invoices by Direct Debit and reconcile them following collection." Publisher FastPay Ltd, United Kingdom, so the scheme is UK direct debit by geography, though the listing doesn't name Bacs.
Score: 5 out of 5 from 1 review on its Xero listing, which is one person's view.
Not published on the listing: any fee, or whether collection runs on FastPay's service user number or yours. Suits you if you want a narrow UK direct debit tool and you'll do your own diligence.
8. Garfield
Recovery rather than collection, and the only app here that will take your customer to court on your behalf.
The listing describes "the first SRA-regulated AI law firm", escalating from a chaser through a letter before action to a small claim in England and Wales up to £10,000. It publishes the clearest price list of any app here, excluding VAT and, in Garfield's words, "recoverable from debtors if claims succeed": a chaser at £2.00, letter before action £7.50, court claims from £50.00, a reply to a debtor's response £5.00.
Score: 5 out of 5 from 3 reviews on its Xero listing.
Not published: outcomes, timescales, or what happens on a defended claim. Suits you where a few invoices a year need legal escalation and you'd rather not instruct a firm by the hour.
9. GoCardless
The direct debit provider Xero names on its own pages, and the default answer if you're collecting by mandate.
Its listing puts the mechanism in one line: "Auto-debit customer bank accounts when invoices are due." Xero's own partnership page adds that GoCardless "collects bank-to-bank payments on the day they're due". The integration creates a Direct Debit clearing account in your Xero, posts collections into it at gross, and posts fees and the net payout separately. GoCardless also publishes the one step it can't automate for you: the final reconciliation of the transfer out of that clearing account.
Score: 3.45 out of 5 from 198 reviews on Xero's Payments category page, and identical on two separate Xero pages.
Not published on the Xero listing: any fee. Two Xero pages disagree about what direct debit costs, so use GoCardless's own pricing page.
10. Paidnice
A rules engine over your Xero ledger: reminders, late fees, interest, discounts, payment plans, all applied automatically.
Xero's accounts receivable collection page calls Paidnice the "2025 Xero Global Small Business App of Year". It's a chasing and penalties tool, so your money still arrives however it arrived before, and it publishes a full GBP rate card on its own site.
Score: 5 out of 5 from 82 reviews on Xero's Debtor tracking page.
Not published: whether reminders stop automatically on a part payment, and it's a fair thing to ask them, because it changes how much manual work a penalties engine makes for you. Suits you if your terms allow late fees you'd rather not apply by hand.
11. Stripe
Cards and wallets on your Xero invoices, from the most widely integrated payment company in the set.
The Xero listing describes cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay on your online invoices. Direct debit isn't part of what it describes, so a UK mandate through Stripe is a separate conversation with Stripe.
Score: this is where Xero's store contradicts itself. Its Payments category showed 2.52 out of 5 from 371 reviews while its accounts receivable collection page showed 2.53 from 369, on the same day. A bare Stripe score can't be reproduced from Xero's own store, so read that low number against its big review base before you treat it as a verdict.
Not published on the listing: any fee. Suits you if card acceptance on invoices is the requirement and reconciliation detail is somebody else's job.
12. uCollect
The oldest specialist here, and the one telling you which gateways it runs on.
Verbatim: "Automate your invoice collection with Direct Debits, eCheck and Credit Card Charges", with the UK in its country list and the gateways named on the listing itself, including Stripe, Forte, Windcave, Netcash, Authorize.net, ABA files and SEPA files. Listed on the Xero store since July 2016, the longest-standing collection integration here.
Score: 4.69 out of 5 from 31 reviews on its Xero listing.
Not published on the listing: pricing, which gateway serves UK direct debit, or whose merchant agreement you end up on. Suits you if you already have a gateway and want collection driven from your Xero invoices.
What the App Store doesn't publish
Half the questions you'd ask a salesperson have no answer on these pages, and the gaps are consistent enough to be useful.
| What you'd want | What Xero's store gives you |
|---|---|
| A price | Four of the twelve publish a figure on their listing or their own site. Access Pay Suite, Apxium, CreditorWatch Collect, ezyCollect, FastPay, Stripe and uCollect state no fee at all on their Xero listings |
| A scheme name | Almost never. Listings say "direct debit" across countries where that means Bacs, ACH, PAD or SEPA, and Xero's own GoCardless page says "direct debit, ACH and PAD" |
| Whose merchant agreement you sign | Nothing. No listing here states who holds the mandate or the merchant relationship |
| When a review was written | Nothing on the category pages. One app in this category, AutoSettle, carries a single review dated February 2022, so a four-year-old five-star average is possible |
| An effective date | No listing carries one, and no listing carries a last-updated line. Every figure on this page is a snapshot |
| What Xero checked before listing it | Nothing readable. Xero's three developer pages on app partner guides, the FAQs page and certification checkpoints all return metadata only |
Two of those change how you read a listing.
Scores move and you can't reproduce them to the decimal, as Stripe's two figures show. GoCardless read the same on both of those pages, so this isn't a store-wide fault, and the gap is trivial. So never quote a Xero App Store score without its review count and the page you read it on, ourselves included.
And a star rating tells you very little without the count beside it. This roster runs from 374 reviews at one end to zero at the other, with three apps carrying three or fewer, and four of the five perfect fives rest on 12 reviews or less. Adfin's own 5 out of 5 rests on six.
How we chose these apps
Every app here appears in Xero's UK Payments category, its Debtor tracking category or its accounts receivable software collection, and every fact comes from the listing or from Xero's own pages, quoted so you can check any of it yourself. Where a listing publishes nothing, this page says so instead of estimating.
The twelve are alphabetical, because Xero publishes no ranking of these apps and a numbered order would imply one. The numbers in the headings are positions in the alphabet and nothing else.
We started from every listing in the Payments category, around 48 apps across two pages, plus the Debtor tracking category. Most of Payments was excluded because it's about paying rather than getting paid: supplier payments, payroll, expenses, company cards, foreign exchange, point of sale and vertical software for schools, clubs, property. What's left either takes money from your customer or works on your unpaid ledger, and the split between the two is our reading of the listing text, quoted beside each entry so you can judge it.
Scores are Xero's, quoted with their review counts, and they're user-reported, with nobody auditing them, so a score here means nothing without the count and the page beside it.

Common questions
Which Xero apps can collect by UK direct debit? On our reading of every listing in Xero's UK Payments and Debtor tracking categories, the apps describing UK direct debit collection are Access Pay Suite (by EazyCollect), Adfin, Apxium, ezyCollect, FastPay, GoCardless (the provider Xero names) and uCollect. Fewer than ten out of roughly 48 apps in the Payments category, and most of that category is about paying out.
Does Xero collect the payment itself? No. Xero's UK page lists your customer's options as "debit card, credit card, direct debit (via Go Cardless or Stripe), Google Pay or Apple Pay", and its GoCardless page says GoCardless "collect[s] payments directly from your customer's bank account" while Xero records the fee and reconciles the payment.
Why does the same app show different scores on different Xero pages? Because Xero's store doesn't return one authoritative number. Its Payments category gave Stripe 2.52 out of 5 from 371 reviews and its accounts receivable collection gave 2.53 from 369, the same day, with caching the likely cause. Quote the count and the page, and treat any bare score as unverifiable.
Do these apps publish their prices? Mostly not. Garfield publishes a full price list excluding VAT, Adfin publishes its rate and cap on the listing, and GoCardless and Paidnice publish rate cards on their own sites. Access Pay Suite, Apxium, CreditorWatch Collect, ezyCollect, FastPay, Stripe (cards only) and uCollect state no fee on their Xero listings, and no listing carries an effective date.
Will a chasing app clash with Xero's own invoice reminders? It can, and neither side can see the other. Xero's API exposes invoice reminders as one read-only boolean, so an app knows whether reminders are on and nothing else about them: no schedule, no wording, no send history. Decide which system owns chasing and switch the other off in Xero yourself.
Is a five-star Xero app better than a three-star one? Not on its own. Here the five-star averages rest on between one and 82 reviews while GoCardless's 3.45 rests on 198, and Xero publishes no review dates on its category pages, so an old review base looks identical to a current one. Read the count first, then the listing text, then the vendor's own documentation.
