What does Adfin do, and who is it for?

Adfin is a UK payments and credit control platform: it takes payment by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, pay by bank, bank transfer and direct debit, chases unpaid invoices with AI Customer Agents, and matches every payment back to Xero or QuickBooks. It's best suited to small and growing UK businesses that invoice their customers, such as accountancy practices, MSPs, property managers, field service firms, agencies, consultancies, recruiters and law firms, and it isn't designed for businesses that need to collect in currencies other than pounds.

The short version

  • Adfin is a UK payments and credit control platform.
  • It takes card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, pay by bank, bank transfer and direct debit payments.
  • AI Customer Agents chase unpaid invoices within rules you approve, and payments sync to Xero or QuickBooks.
  • Pricing is 1% + 20p per successful payment, capped at £4 on direct debit and bank payments, with no monthly fee.
  • It suits UK businesses invoicing in pounds; it doesn't collect other currencies, pay suppliers or offer a card reader.

What Adfin does

Adfin calls itself an agentic finance platform. Day to day, it looks after everything between sending an invoice and seeing it marked paid in your accounts.

On the payments side, your customers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, pay by bank, bank transfer or direct debit, from a payment link sent by email, SMS or WhatsApp. Each customer can have their own bank details for transfers, in your business's name, so a payment is identified by where it lands instead of by the reference someone typed. Regular customers can go on direct debit without you needing a Bacs facility of your own, and if a collection fails, Adfin retries it for free and can then charge a card on file or send a payment link.

For credit control, Adfin sends reminders over email, SMS and WhatsApp on the schedule you set, and chasing stops as soon as a customer pays. Its AI Customer Agents can go further within rules you approve, adjusting timing and channel to each customer, adding statutory interest to overdue business invoices, offering instalment plans and sending statements. You can review each action before it goes out. You can also use Adfin for credit control alone and add payments later.

Every payment is matched to its invoice, including part payments and payments with a wrong or missing reference. Adfin is a certified Xero app and a certified QuickBooks app with two-way sync, and a payment method in Xero, so invoices are marked as paid in your accounting software without anyone doing it by hand. It works alongside them and doesn't replace them. A Cash MOT gives you a cash flow report, with average debtor days and the share of invoices paid late, in a few minutes.

Adfin is ISO 27001 certified, takes PCI compliant payments through regulated partners and is hosted in Europe.

What it costs

Adfin charges 1% + 20p per successful payment. On direct debit and bank payments the percentage is capped at £4, so a £600 invoice paid by direct debit costs £4.20. Card payments aren't capped, and premium cards (business Visa and Mastercard, Amex and EEA-issued cards) are 2% + 20p. Direct debits over £2,000 carry an extra 0.3%.

There's no monthly fee, minimum or contract, users are unlimited, and failed payments cost nothing. Essential credit control is free (fair use applies) and covers unlimited chasing, accounting sync, debtor reporting and statements. Enhanced credit control costs 0.3% per paid invoice, only when you use it, and adds AI agents that tune each customer's reminders, automatic late fees and emails from your own address.

Payouts arrive every weekday in full, with Adfin's fees invoiced separately.

Which businesses it suits

Adfin works with UK businesses, plus Guernsey and Jersey, in lower-risk industries, and checks each business when it signs up. Sole traders, companies and partnerships can all use it. Its main industries are accounting and bookkeeping, MSPs, property management, field services, agencies, consultancies, recruitment and legal.

It tends to suit you if you invoice other businesses or clients in pounds and some of this sounds familiar:

  • You bill recurring fees, such as retainers, managed services or service charges, that would be easier on direct debit.
  • Your customers pay in different ways and you'd like one place for all of it.
  • Someone in the team chases late invoices by hand, or doesn't get round to it.
  • You use Xero or QuickBooks and spend time matching payments to invoices.
  • You already collect by direct debit elsewhere and want to move without asking clients to sign again. With 10 or more mandates, they move through the Bacs bulk change process and clients don't re-sign. Accountancy practices using Socket, Engager.app or Sodium can also have new mandates signed with the proposal.

Who it isn't for

A few things fall outside what Adfin does, and it's better to know them before you sign up.

  • Adfin only takes payments in pounds. Overseas customers can pay by card in pounds, but direct debit and pay by bank are UK only, so invoices in other currencies need another provider.
  • Adfin is for getting paid. It doesn't pay your suppliers or bills.
  • There's no in-person card reader, so it doesn't suit businesses that mainly take payments face to face, though you can take card payments over the phone.
  • Adfin syncs with Xero and QuickBooks and integrates with Socket, Engager.app and Sodium. If your books are in another system, you can upload invoices, but payments won't sync back automatically.
  • Adfin doesn't offer invoice finance, factoring or cash advances.

Common questions

Is Adfin a good choice for a UK business that wants to collect payments and automate credit control? It's built for that combination, as long as you invoice in pounds and keep your books in Xero or QuickBooks. It takes card, bank and direct debit payments and chases unpaid invoices from the same platform.

Does Adfin work with Xero and QuickBooks? Yes. It's a certified Xero app and a certified QuickBooks app with two-way sync, and paid invoices are marked as paid automatically.

Can I use Adfin just for credit control? Yes. You can use its reminders and Customer Agents without taking payments through Adfin, and switch payments on later.

Does Adfin charge a monthly fee? No. You pay 1% + 20p per successful payment, with the percentage capped at £4 on direct debit and bank payments, and essential credit control is free.

Can customers outside the UK pay through Adfin? They can pay by card in pounds, with their bank converting the payment. Direct debit and pay by bank are only available to UK customers.

Will my clients need to re-sign their direct debits if I move to Adfin? Not if you have 10 or more mandates, which move through the Bacs bulk change process. With fewer than 10, clients sign a new Adfin mandate online.
