Adfin integrates with Xero and QuickBooks, with a two-way sync to each, and with three practice tools: Socket, Engager.app and Sodium. In each of the practice tools, your client can set up a direct debit with Adfin as they sign the proposal or engagement letter, and Adfin then collects the fees you invoice through Xero or QuickBooks.

The short version
- Adfin syncs both ways with Xero and QuickBooks
- Adfin is an approved Xero payment partner and appears on Xero invoices as a payment method
- Socket, Engager.app and Sodium let clients set up direct debit with Adfin as they sign
- Practice management systems that post invoices to Xero or QuickBooks work through the ledger
- Adfin doesn't integrate with Sage
Xero and QuickBooks
These are the two ledgers Adfin connects to, and the sync runs both ways in each.
With Xero, you connect from Adfin's settings and choose whether every invoice you approve comes across or only those on an Adfin branding theme. Adfin is added to the invoice as a payment method, with a payment link on the PDF, then collects the money and marks the invoice as paid in Xero. Contacts sync too, and credit notes or part payments you apply in Xero update what Adfin collects. Adfin is an approved Xero payment partner and is listed in the Xero App Store under payments and debtor management.
With QuickBooks, invoices you save with one of Adfin's invoice terms are picked up and sent, customers you create in Adfin appear in QuickBooks, and paid invoices are marked as paid. In both ledgers, payouts are recorded as transfers to your bank account. Because payouts are gross, with the fee invoiced separately, each transfer matches the payments behind it.
Socket, Engager.app and Sodium
These three are where a client relationship starts, and each one can put the direct debit step inside signing.
- Socket (proposals): the direct debit form is part of the proposal, so a new client completes it on the way to signing, while anyone with a mandate already in place goes straight through. For existing clients without a proposal, you can switch their invoices to Adfin, and the next invoice triggers a mandate request that Adfin keeps chasing until it's signed.
- Engager.app (engagement letters and onboarding): you decide, as a default or per letter, whether the client must set up a direct debit, may skip it, or isn't asked at all. The mandate's status then shows against the client in Engager.
- Sodium (practice management): a client can set up their direct debit while accepting a proposal, and you can link the mandates you already hold to the right clients in one go.
In all three, your client fills in a short bank details form once. From then on, fees are collected on each invoice's due date, after advance notice, without a separate request.
How the pieces fit together in a practice
In a typical setup, the flow looks like this. The proposal or engagement letter goes out from Socket, Engager.app or Sodium, and the client signs the mandate as part of accepting. Your fees are invoiced in Xero or QuickBooks as usual. Adfin picks those invoices up, collects them by direct debit on the due date and posts each payment back so the invoice shows as paid.
For clients who don't pay by direct debit, the same invoice carries a payment link, and they can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, pay by bank or bank transfer. Overdue invoices are chased by Adfin's Customer Agents over email, SMS and WhatsApp, sent from your own domain on a schedule you set. A failed direct debit is retried for free, and then the client is asked to pay another way.
There's nothing to re-key between the tools: the mandate comes from the proposal, the invoice from the ledger, and the payment status goes back to the ledger. If you're moving 10 or more mandates from another provider, they transfer through the Bacs bulk change process and your clients don't re-sign.
If your practice uses other software
If your practice management system raises invoices into Xero or QuickBooks, Adfin collects them from there, so the practice management system doesn't need its own connection. Fee notes raised only inside a practice management system that doesn't post to either ledger won't reach Adfin automatically.
Adfin doesn't integrate with Sage. You can upload invoices to Adfin as PDFs or CSV and Excel files and collect them, but payments would then need recording in Sage by hand.
If your proposal tool isn't one of the three above, you can still send the mandate request from Adfin straight after the proposal is signed. It's a separate step for your client, and Adfin reminds them automatically until they've completed it.
Common questions
Which accounting software does Adfin integrate with? Xero and QuickBooks, both with a two-way sync. Invoices come into Adfin and payments go back against them.
Is Adfin an approved Xero payment partner? Yes. Adfin appears on Xero invoices as a payment method and syncs payments back to Xero automatically.
Which proposal or engagement letter tools work with Adfin? Socket, Engager.app and Sodium. In each one, your client can set up the direct debit as part of signing.
Does Adfin integrate with Sage? No. You can upload invoices from Sage, but payments then need recording in Sage yourself.
Does Adfin connect to my practice management system? Not directly, unless it's Sodium. If your system posts invoices to Xero or QuickBooks, Adfin collects them from there.
Do existing clients have to sign a new mandate when I connect Socket? No. Socket recognises clients already paying you by direct debit and skips the step. If you're moving 10 or more mandates from another provider, they transfer without clients re-signing.
